...of the Little Women soundtrack, that is. I feel a little cheated this year. I usually watch Little Women around the first snow of Christmastime, but this year, that snow didn't come. It still hasn't, really...just flurries, and just enough to be pretty and irritating all at once.
It's been pretty cold, though, and the score of this movie is perfect for winter.
I always loved the March family. I still read Little Women every summer, and my heart breaks still when Laurie and Jo don't end up together, and when Aunt March takes Amy to Europe, when Beth dies. When I was 15, I was able to go to "Orchard House" and exist in a home where my favorite novels came to life. I was even obsessed with a little Canadian TV show from the late 90s/early 2000s based on its sequel, Little Men. Everything just seemed so glamorous to be a March sister. Yes, their father was away fighting in a war, they had about zero dollars to survive off of, and the beloved Beth dies, but I wanted to be Jo March. She could spend the day writing, and had the best ideas. A handsome stranger moved in next door, and he was decidedly in love with her (I still haven't given up hope). She got to move to New York and then inherited an ideal estate that would be PERFECT for educating the farm boys in Concord. What more could you want?
There is a quote of Jo's that's been in my head a lot lately.
"I love our home, but I’m just so fitful & I can’t stand being here!"
I hear you, Jo March.
We bare our souls and tell the most appalling secrets.

Well then.
So I started (I use that word very loosely) this blog during the New Year, and then...it fell by the wayside. Now, that's not to say my other "resolutions" or goals have failed. I am taking better care of myself. I am more organized. I found out (tonight!) that so far, through Weight Watchers, I have lost over 10 pounds in about five weeks. Pretty nifty, considering I have been yo-yo-ing this weight since my junior year of college and I'm just done with it. I probably won't feel satisfied until I'm down at least 5 more pounds, but it's a good start. I'm intimidated to determine a goal, but all in due time I suppose.
My other various goals for the year that are not completed yet include actually knitting something of worth, learning to play the piano and to drive a stick shift without stalling. Wish me luck...
It feels nice to be blogging somewhere that is not livejournal. Now, don't get me wrong, I still have it. I've had the old el-jay for about eight years, and at this point, I can't just drop it. The livejournal has a part of me, though, I'd rather forget. More on that, though, another time.
Off to do some reading before bed. Another goal I've accomplished in 2012- reading for fun again. My friend Katie lent me "The Fairy Godmother" by Mercedes Lackey...looks interesting to say the least.
Goodnight!

Hi.
New blog for 2012...how cute. I need an outlet like this, though, so here goes.
First things: My name is Katie, and I'm a twentysomething from New Jersey. I am a teacher, I still live at home, and I am so deep into college debt that I think my grandchildren will probably be paying it off for me. I am a grammar nazi, deeply in love and trying to lose the thirty pounds I've gained since college.
In addition to this new blog, I also have a livejournal I can't quit (that I've had since 2003?), tumblr, facebook and twitter.
Let's see how long I actually commit to this one.
Happy New Year, internet.
